I have seen flashes of a kestrel down by the Sebasticook River and by a big oak tree behind the barn, but could not get a good look. This late afternoon there was a kestrel checking out the nesting hole in the eaves of the barn. I got a good look before he flew off. He seems pretty spooked by my movements. That is unusual in that they never seemed concerned with my presence. We have had a nesting pair for the last 6 or more years. Sometimes we have two pairs at diagonal ends of the big old barn. This one is checking out the southwest corner of the barn. We have seen as many as 3 young being fed mostly mice in past years. Spring is coming. The tree swallows arrive here between April 9th and April 12th. Yea!
