Weather:
Today was windy, really windy with strong gusts just below the advisory level. More trees could be heard crashing down north of the summit. The wind thrashed some of our supplies, so the whiteboard and table were placed in storage for safe keeping for the rest of the day.Jeannette and I split the day and she took the first half. By the end of both of our shifts we had bundled up like it was mid March. Air temps were mild but the wind was really sucking the heat out. Skies were partly sunny.
Raptor Observations:
Bird activity was relatively low today given the poor flying conditions. Birds came through pretty steadily hour to hour without any peaks or troughs. Ospreys seemed to be following a similar line in there efforts to move north, staying low to the tree tops and following the contours of the nearby ridgelines.
Non-raptor Observations:
Earlier in the day Jeannette spotted four more Sandhill Cranes in front of the mountain flying to the north. In the afternoon I got to watch about 36 Tree Swallows flying south.
Predictions:
Tomorrow looks more tolerable than today, with highs in upper 50s and lots of sunshine. Wind direction isn't ideal, from the NW but it shouldn't be blowing nearly as hard as today. So far tomorrow is looking like the pick of the week.
