[Maine-birds] So, York County CBC: Moody Sector, 12/16 (OCWA, DOVE, COMU, 3 PIWA, etc).

Hi all,

Dan Nickerson joined Jeannette and I in our annual combing of the Moody sector of the Southern York County CBC yesterday.

Covering over 15 party miles by foot during over 7 hours of our 8.5 hr day, we check lots of thickets and seasonal hotspots. Overall numbers were low as lack of snow cover and open inland waters continued to reduce normal seasonal concentrations of both landbirds and waterbirds at the coast.

Our 57 total species was only slight below average, augmented by an impressive roster (even for this always-productive territory) of "good birds." In fact, the level of quality to quantity was pretty darn good.

Highlights included:

  • 1 DOVEKIE - Moody Point
  • 1 COMMON MURRE - beached on Ogunquit Beach. Released, apparently successfully. (Story on store's Facebook page)
  • 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet - Ogunquit Beach dunes
  • 2 Chipping Sparrows - Bayberry St.
  • 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - Ogunquit Beach dunes.
  • 3 PINE WARBLERS (1 female at Beach Plum Farm, pair including different female by plumage at nearby Beach Plum Lane).
