[Maine-birds] Volunteers Needed - Cliff Swallow Colony and Tree Swallow Nest Box Monitoring Projects

Good morning all,

Hope everyone is staying healthy and enjoying some socially distant birding. I'm here with another opportunity for you to participate in an exciting bird monitoring project here in Maine.

The Maine Nest Box Monitoring Project is currently seeking volunteers to participate in a pilot Cliff Swallow colony monitoring project. Volunteers will be provided with 3-5 artificial Cliff Swallow nests (made of kiln-fired potter's clay) which they will install at existing/recently occupied swallow colonies. Volunteers will monitor the breeding activity at the colony and perform maintenance to avoid the establishment of invasive species at the colony site at the end of season.

Additionally, we have a number of Tree Swallow boxes prepared and ready for monitoring during this field season. Supplies of both nest structures are limited and these should be deployed as soon as possible, so act fast if you are interested in taking part.

The results of both of these monitoring projects will be shared with the Maine Bird Atlas (2018 - 2022). If you are interested in participating in either of these efforts, contact me at logan@hereinthewild.com. Thanks!
