[Maine-birds] Crossbills in Arundel

I am not sure who first reported crossbills from the Arundel Cemetery earlier this month on eBird, but I wanted to thank them and let others know that yesterday the phenomena continued.

The exotic spruce plantation (Norway?) is feeding flocks of both species of crossbill.  Yesterday we found at least 50 Reds and about 10 White-winged at the site.  There is plenty of room to park and although they are high in the trees, they are easy to observe.

It was raining spruce cone bracts on us.  I would think they would continue a the site for some time because the cone crop appears to be very heavy.

Good birding,
tom
