I am a beginning birder and I am not sure if this is a good use of the mailing list, but I would like to share some of my sightings at Ferry Beach yesterday, around 7:00pm.
Just before the storm hit the marshes, a large number of birds started moving west. Among many snowy egrets and gulls, I think I spotted two or three tricolored herons, and another dark, small-sized heron I am not sure about -- I would be tempted to say it looked like a reddish egret but I am not sure. In the distance, a very large flock of glossy ibises was also on the move.
Here is a link to a couple of pictures, forgive the low quality but the conditions were far from optimal. Also an american whimbrel flew around us and landed on the beach, remaining there for a few minutes:
