A single Whimbrel passed over the boat off Egg Rock this afternoon.
Two hatching year Bald Eagles were also at Egg Rock, one was actively hunting hatching year Herring Gulls. Some of the latter were in a steep learning curve as they attempted to avoid being caught. None were taken but it was very close at times.
A brief period of fog at 4 p.m. between Schoodic Pt. and along the outer bay area brought in dozens of Gannets, adult, subadult and immature many plunge feeding on a big school of fish, probably mackerel.
Immature Laughing Gulls are increasing in numbers.
Winter plumaged Black Guillemots are showing up.
The first winter plumaged Bonaparte's Gulls are being seen.
In spite of what one might expect, there have no scavenging birds at the dead 50-ft Sperm Whale today.
