Re: [Maine-birds] great egrets in Bangor

Saw one great egret yesterday (Aug. 2) on east side of Williams Flowage (Kennebec River) in Solon about one mile north from the boat landing on the Solon/Bingham recreational trail .

Although common breeders in southern Maine, great egrets are only spring over-shoots or late-summer wanderers in central, eastern, and northern Maine.

Post-breeding dispersal of heron family birds has begun. Tuesday a single great egret arrived at Essex Woods. By Thursday six egrets were seen there; this morning NINE great egrets were in the wetland.

Others have better photos, but one quick shot of six of the birds I saw early this afternoon is here. All nine were there, but not in my one photo.
