[Maine-birds] Northern Yellow-shafted Flicker Town Hill yard, Mt Desert Is.

The small grassy patch of our yard has been visited and revisited all afternoon by a male Northern Flicker, resplendent in the most glorious outfit that I have seen on any bird this spring including all those amazing warblers. I looked up "resplendent" to make sure of the spelling and it means "filled with splendor", from resplendere, "to shine brightly".  Absolutely.
In my personal bird-world the male Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted) will be King, since he already wears the regalia.  I believe the Raven will be head of the CIA and the Evening Grosbeak (nice photo of that this afternoon on this list) will be Army Chief of Staff.  Feel free to nominate candidates for other office, but, please, NOT on the Maine Birds list; send to my off-list e-mail.
Here, http://acadiabirds.wordpress.com/2012/06/08/northern-yellow-shafted-flicker-june-082012/  is an even worse than usual photo, taken through an inside window and the slats of the porch railing.
