Here in West Bethel, on the recently rebuilt Route 2 corridor, I'm hearing xyz orioles, but not seeing them/ identifying as in the past.
We've lost a 100 yards of mature deciduous forest margin between our property and the highway right-of-way, so I don't see nest building as I have been accustomed to see for 20+ years. Fodder for a different discussion.
I believe that the residents I'M HEARING have shifted their nest locations upstream or downstream on/ over the course of the Pleasant River , where there are still overhanging deciduous trees and locations that suit them.
They did arrive and announce themselves a week later than I expected. Our Apple and Pear tree bloom was early and the birds came late to that situation.
I obviously can't quantify visually what I only hear so I'm just offering it up .
