[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights This Week and Shorebird High Counts, 9/7-13

Hi all,

 

Just a few additional sightings of note from me over the past seven days included:

- 1 continuing Red-necked Grebe, off Ocean Avenue, Biddeford Pool, 9/10 (with Jeannette)

- 2 continuing adult SANDHILL CRANES, Mayall Road, Gray/New Gloucester, 9/11. 

- a nice mixed-species foraging flock through our Pownal yard on the morning of 9/12 included two new additions to our "Yard List:" Cape May Warbler and Philadelphia Vireo. 

 

My shorebird high counts this week:

Black-bellied Plover: 35 - Pine Point, Scarborough, 9/12.

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER: 3 -Mayall Road, 9/11.

Semipalmated Plover: 76 - Pine Point, 9/13.

Killdeer: 39 - Mayall Road, 9/11.

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 2 - Western Beach, Scarborough as viewed from Pine Point Beach.

Greater Yellowlegs: 12 - Pine Point, 9/12.

Lesser Yellowlegs: 6 - Wharton Point, Brunswick, 9/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

Solitary Sandpiper: 1 - Fort Foster, Kittery, 9/13.

"Eastern" Willet: 1 juv (getting late) - Pine Point, 9/12.*

"WESTERN" WILLET: 1 continuing juv - Pine Point, 9/12.*

Spotted Sandpiper: 5 - Ocean Avenue, 9/10 (with Jeannette).

HUDSONIAN GODWIT: 1 continuing juv, Scarborough Marsh Nature Center, 9/12*

Red Knot: 1 juv - Pine Point, 9/12.

Sanderling: 28 - Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/10 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 280+ Wharton Point, 9/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

Least Sandpiper: 15 - Wharton Point, 9/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

White-rumped Sandpiper: 1 - Wharton Point, 9/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

Dunlin: 4 juv - Pine Point, 9/13.

Short-billed Dowitcher: 27, including one continuing injured adult - Pine Point, 9/12.
