Re: [Maine-birds] ROSEATE SPOONBILL - Dover-Foxcroft, 8/27

Just wanted to share a few details on the Roseate Spoonbill:

Here is Dan and Dennis's eBird checklist that has photos and a map to the exact location: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S48106950

You can only access "River Road E" (which google also calls "E Dover Back Rd"), the "Old Railroad Grde" is not public and really doesn't seem to exist anymore, despite Google Maps thinking you can drive on it. The bird was first spotted from River Road, looking north over the small ponds until it flew into the base of the dead trees in the northeast corner of that pond where it was not visible from the road. After talking to the farm owner, we were given permission to walk up their driveway to see into that pond but **no one should go onto this private property without permission.** The landowners were also very concerned with birders being near the pasture around the pond because of the six aggressive bulls these. So, be smart, don't trespass, and if the bird isn't immediately visible you may just need to be patient for the bird to relocate.

Good birding,
