[Maine-birds] Matinicus CBC results

Apologies for the delay in reporting this but we did complete the Matinicus Island CBC on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. Mike Fahay flew out in the morning with me from Rockland and we were joined by island residents, Paul and Eva Murray.

As reported from other Maine CBCs (at least those held in the latter part of the CBC period), the diversity and numbers were low and we had the striking miss of not finding a single Black Guillemot and no finches of any kind.

Highlights included a Dovekie which I had the good fortune to enjoy watching close up near the harbor breakwater, a Snowy Owl that Mike photographed on top of a building on the south end of the island, two Red-bellied Woodpeckers (the only woodpeckers we could find this year out there!), an Iceland Gull, and an adult Peregrine Falcon that Paul spotted over Ten Pound Island.

Total of 35 species.

If anyone wants to see the full summary, email me directly and I will send it over to you.
