A male yellow bellied sapsucker was diligently working the sap on a sugar maple today in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland. It was joined by 2 whitebreasted nuthatches and 2 gray squirels, also licking the sap. Apparently midday was warm enough for sap to run and I could see it in the crevices of the tree.
