[Maine-birds] Christmas count trivia

Christmas count figures. For entertainment purposes only these are not statistically accurate. Only identified species were used for these figures. Hybrids, count week birds, and unidentified types were not used.
There were 32 counts all the same ones as last year. The Jordan Basin offshore count was not included in some of the following figures due to its unique offshore area but is part of the total of 32 counts for Maine.
Total identified species this year 137 (including Jordan Basin). Last year 142
Total number of identified birds this year 173950 which was up from 167661 last year.
Average birds per land-based counts (31) was 5611. Last year 2017 it was 5409
Most species this year was Portland with 101. Last year it was also Portland with 94
Count with the least species was Misery Gore which had 14 this year and 14 last year.
Birds that appeared on all 31 counts: Bald Eagle, Blue Jay, Crow, Raven, Black-c Chickadee, Red-br Nuthatch, and White-br Nuthatch. Seven species in 2018 compared to six in 2017. Bald Eagle, Raven, and White-br Nuthatch were added, Dark-e Junco and Goldfinch dropped off.
Most abundant: Crow 25230, Starling 18624, Herring Gull 16800, Mallard 11514, and Black-c Chickadee 10897 and Rock Dove 9758.
Species represented by only one individual: Brant, Wood Duck, Eurasian Wigeon, Great Black Hawk, Killdeer, Woodcock, Saw-whet Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Hermit Thrush, Brown Thrasher, and Summer Tanager. If we include the Jordan Basin pelagic count it will add Fulmar and Puffin.
Counts that tallied over 10 thousand individuals: Augusta, Portland, and Waterville. Freeport-Brunswick was close with 9999 birds. **remember, these are identified birds only so these figures will not match the figures in the Audubon listings.
Counts that had unique birds, those seen only on that count some of which may total more than one bird:
Eastport Bunker Hill, Mount Desert, Deer Isle, and Freeport had one specie, Biddeford had three, and Portland had six.
Ten counts were held on Dec. 15, six on Dec. 29, two on Dec. 14,16,17,27, Jan. 1 and one count on Dec. 19, 22, 23, 26, 28, Jan. 4. This includes the Jordan Basin count.
