Re: [Maine-birds] Redpolls in Cumberland

For the past month, a small group of redpolls has been frequenting the Laudholm campus of the Wells Reserve. None that I saw today, but 15 yesterday morning and noon and 5 in late afternoon. They're often along the edges of walkways or around the buildings. They're also often absent. Over many years walking this campus, this is the first winter I've encountered redpolls. (Still none in my Berwick yard, even though we stocked up on niger in anticipation.)

In other Wells Reserve bird news, FOY redwings, grackle, and turkey vulture today. Woodcock must be imminent.

They have spent some time picking at the tree tops before hitting the feeders for about 15-20 minutes. A few times they would swarm around the sky en masse. Very fun to see. Check your feeders and yards! I hope a few others get the pleasure of their company!
