[Maine-birds] Biddeford/Kennebunk CBC results

The 61st Biddeford/Kennebunkport CBC that took place on Friday, January 1st.  We had 36 birders, mostly birding individually or in small family groups. The day was mostly sunny with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s in the morning to mid-30s in the afternoon with a light north-west wind.

Total species 81, Total birds 13,501, Plus 2 CW species.  This is a little lower than the average for the last 10 years, although many teams had over 50 species for the day which is unusual for birding in January.  We had high counts for 11 species: Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Belted Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Peregrine Falcon, Common Raven, Tufted Titmouse, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Eastern Bluebird, and White-winged Crossbill.  We did not have any new low counts but sea birds, gulls, shorebirds were less abundant this year. Birds seen less frequently on this count were Wood Duck, Lesser Scaup, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, Pine Warbler, Red Crossbill, and White-winged Crossbill. The Count Week birds were Turkey Vulture and Gray Catbird.

Thanks again for your participation, hard work and flexibility this year.
