This morning I flushed an immature night-heron from the shore as I hiked the trail along the west side of the Great Wass TNC preserve. It perched briefly enough for me to snap a hurried shot through my binoculars with my iPhone. The bill was noticeably heavy and all black, the streaking well-defined, and the legs notably long, especially in flight to and away from its perch. I'd appreciate any comments to the contrary, but I believe this bird is a Yellow-crowned.
Good Birding.
