Anyone wanting looks at black-crowned night-herons might check the harborline during lower tides - 2 adults and two juvs there this morning. The harbor area adjacent to the Lyman Morse property and Jeff's Marine is the usual spot. This has been a perennial nest site for over a decade. Few shorebirds in the low-tide mud: 3 greater yellowlegs and a passing group of 30 peeps. After about 10 years of shorebird surveys of this vicinity, we note a substantial decline in overall migrant numbers. Diminished use of Weskeag Marsh as a high-tide roast and feeding site is even more obvious within past 3-5 years.
