[Maine-birds] SoYork County CBC - Moody Section (RECR, MAWR, YBCH, BBPL, more), 12/21

 Hi All,

Luke Sietz and I covered the Moody territory, as we usually do, for the Southern York County CBC yesterday.  This small but extremely fruitful section runs from Eldridge Road in Wells to downtown Ogunquit, and inland only a short distance west of Route One.

Each year, this section provides a long roster of highlights, and yesterday was no exception…but our day was exceptional; quite possibly our best day in this exciting territory.  Here are the highlights among a total of 67 total species:

- 2 RED CROSSBILLS (RECR), Beach Plum Lane.  First Count Record, surprisingly. Preliminary analysis of the recording that Luke obtained suggested Type 10.
- 1 MARSH WREN (MAWR), corner of Eldridge Rd and Webhannet St.  Photos by Luke.  2nd Count Record.
- 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (YBCH), Spinnaker Ridge Road. Photos by Luke.  2nd Count Record.
- 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER (BBPL), Ogunquit River/Moody Marsh. 3rd Count Record.
- 2 Northern Flickers, Bourne Avenue and Cranberry Street.  6th and 7th Count Records.
- 9 Carolina Wrens – previous high for the CIRCLE was 7!
- 2 Brown-headed Cowbirds, Rte 1, Wells.
- 6 White-winged Crossbills.  Two males at Beach Plum Farm (4th Count Record).  Two males along Moor View Avenue (5th Count Record).  Two female/immatures at the Wells Sewerage plant (6th Count Record).
- 9 total Pine Grosbeaks.
- 74 Red-necked Grebes (very high for our section).
- 12 Sanderlings, Ogunquit Beach.
- 2 Red-bellied Woodpeckers.
- 2 Pine Siskins.

Merry Christmas Counting!
