Re: [Maine-birds] Fw: ABA blog: is there really a difference between Common and Hoary Redpolls?

I skimmed through the comments on this post, and a few people point out that the paper is not suggesting that Common and Hoary Redpolls aren't legitimate species, all it's saying is that the genetic markers they looked at didn't differ significantly. I suspect that further research will reveal that Redpoll populations are complex, and maybe reveal ongoing hybridization, but I don't think we should automatically dismiss them as all the same species. It'd make things a whole lot easier though...

Greetings all,

This has appeared on the CT and Mass listserves, and it seems appropriate to spread it north into the rest of New England!
