After patrolling the Portland waterfront with only distant views of gulls, I finally hit the jackpot
At the end of Custom House Wharf
There were fish bait buckets being swarmed by gulls.
I got to within 3 feet of them and got an iPhone Meopta photo thru my binoculars of a very cooperative Iceland Gull
Spectacular!

Finally found a snowy in something approaching natural habitat. Not many
chimneys in the Arctic :). This was taken in a large blueberry field,
which this year definitely qualifies as Arctic.

The bluebird that Cathy posted appears to have an aluminum band PLUS a
color band. Can you get a photo of the other leg? Dave

Had a female Eastern Bluebird at my feeders in Kennebunkport this morning. They have been here most of the winter, but never noticed a band before

As a passive reader of this blog, I am surprised that I have not read any
comments or discussion about the devastating fire at Birdsacre in Ellsworth.
Is the Maine Audubon community assisting the historic and wonderful
volunteers at that facility in any way?
