Visitors:
Despite the weather, 17 people visited the hawk watch today.
Weather:
Unfavorable southeast winds made for a slow cold day on the mountain. Winds were quite a bit stronger than expected with relatively heavy gusts. Temperatures stayed at or just below freezing on the summit, although wind chill made it feel much colder.
Raptor Observations:
Not a lot of movement today considering the weather. Most raptor activity was observed in the morning hours. Of the few raptors seen migrating, most were Turkey Vultures.
Non-raptor Observations:
While not many raptors were moving, 22 non-raptor species were recorded from the summit. Those deemed migrating included: 7 Red-winged Blackbirds 60 Common Grackles 51 Canada Geese 10 Blackbird sp. 97 American Goldfinches 4 American Robins
Predictions:
There is a good chance we will wake up to some snow tomorrow morning. The weather looks to start out a bit cloudy and cool with light north winds turning northwest through the afternoon. If winds are light enough, birds may be moving.
