Hi all,
My other observations of note over the past seven days included the following:
- 1 Evening Grosbeak, Gardner Lake, Whiting, 8/29.
- 1 Vesper Sparrow, Machias River Public Reserve Land, 8/30 (with Jeannette).
- 1 early Lincoln's Sparrow, feeders here at the store on 8/31.
- 2 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, Popham Beach State Park, Phippsburg, 9/3.
- 1 Red Crossbill, Private Property in Durham, 9/4.
- 254 Common Nighthawks, big flight over the store between 4:30pm and 6:20pm on 9/4 with only intermittent observation.
And my shorebird high counts this week were as follows:
Killdeer: 18, Androscoggin River, Durham, 9/4 (with Dan Nickerson).
Black-bellied Plover: 114, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 9/2.
Semipalmated Plover: 30++, Sanborn Cove, Machiasport, 8/29 (with Jeannette). Unfortunately, the strong onshore wind pushed the tide in even quicker as we attempted to wait out heavy rainfall; many birds were departing as we arrived.
Piping Plover: 1 juv, Popham Beach State Park, 9/3.
Red Knot: 1 juv, Sanborn Cove, Machiasport, 8/29 (with Jeannette).
Sanderling: 122, Popham Beach State Park, 9/3.
Least Sandpiper: 66, Downeast Sunrise Trail, East Machias, 8/29 (with Jeannette).
White-rumped Sandpiper: 1++, Sanborn Cove, Machiasport, 8/29 (with Jeannette; see SEPL note above).
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (FOY): 2 juv, Mayall Road, 9/2.
Semipalmated Sandpiper: 1,000+, Sanborn Cove, Machiasport, 8/29 (with Jeannette; see SEPL note above).
Short-billed Dowitcher: 3, Wharton Point, 9/2.
Spotted Sandpiper: 2, Androscoggin River, Durham, 9/4 (with Dan Nickerson).
Solitary Sandpiper: 1, Sandy Point Morning Flight, 8/31.
Lesser Yellowlegs: 7, Downeast Sunrise Trail, East Machias, 8/30 (with Jeannette).
