Re: [Maine-birds] Turf Farm access info

Bob (and all),

To the best of my knowledge, access to Harvard Turf Farm (aka Tuckahoe Turf Farm) in Berwick is still as described here:

Except right now, weekends seem as busy as any weekday. Operations can be widespread. Last week, for the first time, I saw workers using screamers to scare geese off.

I recommend Ridlon Road. It is paved at both ends, but is dirt through the "best parts." It's in decent shape right now, but beware potholes. It can also be fairly busy, since many people access Murdock Lake there, so find a place to pull off. Officially, the road closes for winter. I've tried it a couple of times in a passenger car when snowy or muddy and decided it's a Bad Idea.

It's worth noting that birders used to have more access to this site and abused the privilege, which led to stricter limits. I hope someday the pendulum swings back.

Good luck!
