Hi,
I have recently seen on several occasions an unknown bird on my property. First time it was raining and brownish robin-sized bird flew across the yard. Brownish with a russetty back, my brain thought "Fieldfare" which is wrong, clearly, but it was pouring. Yesterday presumed bird bombed out of an apple tree while I was cutting up firewood and I again really only got a look at its back. Robin sized or slightly larger, brown, russet to buff coverts, and 'eyespots' on the outermost tail feathers. Flies straight. Leaning towards a Cuckoo, did have a Black-billed calling here in the spring. It looks like the Yellow billed has tail spots though. Does anyone have a photo of one in flight from the caudal approach? Have not got a good look at this guy's head.
Sarah
