[Maine-birds] The Dazzling Lawrence Crows January 31, 2021

Last night the resident and migrant crows coming into Lawrence MA were so impressive. The Merrimack River has frozen above the Great Stone Dam and the crows have moved west staging on the ice and on both sides of the river.
They are now staging to the west of Rt. 28 Broadway St. Take Shattuck St. going by the Lawrence Experiment Station, stop at the MA Riverside Park and look out onto the ice and in nearby trees, then go to the Abe Beshara BoatHouse at the end of Eaton Street off of Everett St.  Look out onto the ice and on the tops of the trees along the river. Walk west around the Boat House for a better view of the river.
Last night Bob and I had a Great Blue Heron, a Raven and a Bald Eagle there too.
As sunset approached, the crows moved east best seen from the State Park. So many moved out on the ice to the east of the park. After sunset, they began to fill into the trees to the west of the Experiment Station. One car can pull into the gate of the Station and look out. All of the tops of the oak trees filled with crows, Some deciduous trees along the river were never used - their upper branches seem dense and thin - maybe too weak to hold a crow (1 lb./bird). Some old reports of roosts tell of branches breaking under the weight of the crows.
Many crows were out on the ice beyond. The din of crow calls was so loud and so varied. Crows swirled around and around, many on the roof of the Station.  They were still there an hour after sunset.- not sure if they finally roosted there of they did move. No way you could get a total count  last night.
Ideally, choose a night where you have a sunset.
Enjoy and please let me know what you see.
