The first shrike wasn’t a surprise, but the second one was. The Stud Mill Road east of Milford contains a long power line and gas pipeline, favored by owls, shrikes, and this Maine Bird Atlas surveyor. At the intersection of a plowed road to Brandy Pond, a shrike flew over my head. I turned to follow him up the road, when I noticed there was another one perched beside me. It’s the first time I’ve seen two hunting the same area.
