[Maine-birds] Fwd: Bradbury Mountain State Park (15 Mar 2021) 5 Raptors

And we're underway! Nothing like the second coldest day of the winter to celebrate the beginning of the Spring Hawkwatch. But at least we tallied a few migrants battling through.

Visitors:
We had no visitors to the site today.

Weather:
Today was a blustery day by any standard. The wind blew out of the NW for the majority of the count period, with a shift to the N during the last hour. Strong winds were mixed in with gusts as high as 35 mph. Temperatures struggled to rise above 23 degrees. But, sunny conditions all day kept the conditions somewhat tolerable.

Raptor Observations:
The strong winds today kept migrants on hold. We began the 2021 count with a total of 5 migrating raptors today. One Red-tailed Hawk was observed twice being harassed by crows, along with an adult Bald Eagle spotted soaring high during the last minutes of the count.

Non-raptor Observations:
It was very quiet at the summit today, with almost no bird sound. Birds deemed migrating included 20 Red-winged Blackbirds and 8 Common Grackles. 14 American Robins and 3 Canada Geese were observed moving south.

Predictions:
Tomorrow morning looks to be another cold one. However, temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid-30s with increasing clouds. A NW wind during the first half of the day is predicted to be much lighter than today. A shift to the west, and eventually WSW in the afternoon hours may bring us a little push of migrants.
