Visitors:
12 visitors today
Weather:
Today was perfectly comfortable up at the summit but the day was cut short due to impending storms. Moderate winds started out of the east but switched to the south for the final 2 hours. Temps ranged from 48 to 58 degrees.
Raptor Observations:
Today was slower than yesterday but not bad! Birds came in waves, with no birds for 25 minutes at a time and then 6 or 7 within a few minutes. For about an hour this morning we had a male Merlin hanging around the summit, we can only hope that Mr. and Mrs. Hawkwatch Junco escaped his swooping raids around the area.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not too much to report here. Cormorants continue to move. A small flock of White-throated Sparrows was hanging around the summit, FOS. Migratory species were as follows: Double-crested Cormorants: 51 Yellow-rumped Warbler: 15 Northern Flicker: 3 Tree Swallow: 11 Barn Swallow: 1 Passerine Spp.: 3 Great Blue Heron: 1 26 species were detected from the summit, including singing Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
Predictions:
Strong northwest winds tomorrow, wind-chill in the low 30's. Mostly cloudy. North winds aren't encouraging to migrating raptors but WNW winds could still bring birds!
