[Maine-birds] MBA: Volunteers Needed for Whip-poor-will and Nighthawk Surveys this Summer

Hey everyone,

Logan Parker here with another opportunity to take part in an exciting bird monitoring opportunity as part of the Maine Bird Atlas. The Maine Nightjar Monitoring Project is partnered with the MBA to gather data on Eastern Whip-poor-will, Common Nighthawks, and other birds active at twilight and on moonlit nights. Now in our third year, we're pushing to get every route throughout the state adopted and monitored. We need your help to make that happen!

The time commitment is fairly small: surveys take about 1.25 hours to complete and need to be surveyed during just 1 evening and 1-2 moonlit summer nights. With fewer birds active at these times of day, this project great for learning and advanced birders alike. These surveys are a great opportunity to observe lots of interesting bird species (nightjars, owls, and more) while also contributing to their conservation.

If you would like to join our team of volunteers, visit our project website to sign up! To see a map of available routes, view our route page. It you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me at logan@hereinthewild.com
