Re: [Maine-birds] Chuck-will's Widow?

Hello Charles! We walked into Great Pond Mountain Wildlands looking for Common Nighthawk and Whip-poor-will and had no expectation of finding Chuck-will's-widow. We went in from the South Gate and walked about 2.5 miles up the Valley Road to Mushrall Meadow. We then sat around the campfire ring (no fire) and listened to the birds for about 30 minutes. At 10:00, I picked up the Chuck-will's-widow calling fairly close. Good luck!

The past few years there's been a Chuck-will's Widow on Valley Road in Orland (Hancock Co), and so far one report on eBird this year. Does anyone have suggestions about how to go about finding this bird--specifically where and when? Any other reports from this year? We'll be in the area this coming weekend.

Thanks,

--Charles
