There has also been a couple winter wrens singing here in Stoneham (western Maine Mountains)....I was just saying yesterday that I thought they were normally long gone by now....the Evening Grosbeaks are still hanging around as well....pretty strange....

We have regularly had winter wrens pass through in the spring
migration, but never have they hung around for the summer~until this
year. We have been astounded at both the stamina and volume of this
little singer! Somewhere out behind our compost pile he sits and
sings, and sings, and sings, (and sings) ...beginning at 4:45 a.m.
and continuing even through these very hot days with only occasional
pause.
Is this constant singing, even in the heat of summer, normal
behavior? We thought the vireos' songs were "incessant", but now we
have a new definition for the word!
