Doing my usual bird survey of the Penobscot on Sunday morning, I could just make out a black form in a tree overlooking a cove. I figured it for a crow, but checked anyway. Nope; a Green Heron, the first one I've seen in three years of watching the river.
In addition, a fox made off across the cove, turned marshy by the low tide, with something for dinner. I couldn't quite tell what it was; it was the size and general shape of a young woodchuck, but there was no tail that I could see.
