Gulf of Maine

The RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD, which returned to Maine for the 8th year, continues to be seen on Seal Island.

Greater Portland

An AMERICAN AVOCET continued in the Scarborough Marsh, off the Eastern Trail, until the 23rd after being found on the 21st. Other noteworthy shorebirds included: three 'PRAIRIE' SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a WILSON'S PHALAROPE, and a high count of 17 STILT SANDPIPERS on the 24th.

At least one TRICOLORED HERON and one WHITE-FACED IBIS continue to be seen around the Scarborough Marsh.

Midcoast

Uncommon in the summer, up to six LONG-TAILED DUCKS continue to be seen from Simpson Point in Brunswick.

On the 26th, an adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was photographed at Reid State Park in Georgetown.

Penobscot Bay

A pair of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS was seen from the Bucksport/Orrington town line on the 25th.

Down east

Unusual for this location, a GRAY JAY was seen near the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park on the 22nd.

Reports from the Bar Harbor Whale Watch lately have included irregular reports of skuas.
