[Maine-birds] banded Rockland gull

Here's the scoop on the gull-

Thanks Don for the photo. Blue F2Z was banded this spring (April 26)
in a breeding colony on Ile Deslauriers near Varennes, just east of
Montreal on the St. Lawrence River. The colony supports approximately
45,000 pairs. I don't know if this bird was actually nesting because
we caught it with a net launcher on the beach surrounding the island.
We know that many breeding birds disperse after the breeding period in
all directions: to the north-east up to Prince Edward Island to the
south-west up to Rochester NY and some move south as Blue F2Z. They
often stay on their post-breeding staging area before undertaking
their migration further south (up to FL and Cuba) but most stay in MA,
CT, NY, all depends of weather conditions.

Thanks again for reporting this bird and do not hesitate to fill the
form on our web site or send me an email if you see it again or other
marked birds. We have one bird that have stopped at the same McDonald
in CT for three years in a row!
