Many thanks to those of you who offered tips on birding in Southern and Mid-Coast! In spite of heat, my friends and I sallied forth to Scarborogh Marsh 8 - 11:30 AM today with the rising tide. Not much happening at the jetty off Pine Point though a variety of terns. Lesser yellow legs on restaurant side of flats. Godwit across Seavey's Landing and barn and tree swallows swooping. Probably saw 9 glossy ibis in various spots (could not confirm white face through heat shimmer at distance). Real find was the pool at the far end of Eastern Trail which even at high tide had mud enough for a variety of shorebirds. There and along the trail we had: willets, snowy egret, great blue, little blue, semipal sandpiper, least sandpiper, whimbrel, short billed dowitchers (also at the Audubon facility at 8, which also had semipal plover). Doubtless others. These were the birds we agreed we were correctly id'ing. We also had good looks at Saltmarsh and swamp sparrows. All tolled counting the ususal suspects, we had 33 species though most were individuals. My friend from Denver, where she participates in banding and census projects also got a chance to talk to folks doing demographics in the marsh. In all, it was a successful am -- even if it's taken the rest of the day to recouperate! Calien --
