[Maine-birds] Schoodic Point yesterday

From Saturday 7-28.

A morning bird walk on the SERC campus and an afternoon stint at Schoodic Point
proved to be rather low on the bird activity scale.  Young of the year dominate the
excitement on campus as a variety of adults were again seen feeding their progeny; Chipping Sparrow,
Dark-eyed Junco, Black-throated Green Warbler, Golden-crowned Kinglet.
Red Crossbills can be found on nearly a daily basis, both visually and vocally.
Butterflies and dragonflies filled in gaps when birds were absent!

At the point (1-3 PM), 12 Northern Gannets were actively diving, though nearly at the limit of binocular reach.
Within a stone's throw of shore a couple of Common Eider rafts (total 156 individuals) were easily studied.
A lone Black Scoter flew over the "loafing" eiders.
Gulls are a constant, three species were seen (HEGU, GBBG, LAGU).

Black Guillemots, too, were active here and there around the point.
