Hello Carol,
Cardinals in this area seem to be comming more common as time goes by, though it seems that they occur only in towns and around human habitation. I had a nesting pair in the cedars along side my house.
As for Nelson's, you can often hear/see them by simply using the drive-thru at D and D! Pretty cool!
