[Maine-birds] Woodpeckers

Yesterday morning six H. Woodpeckers were draped all over our suet feeder. At least two of them were juvies hounding dad for handouts. Funny to watch them stick their beaks right through the hardware cloth/wire to take something from dad, rather than just helping themselves. I did finally see one of the young ones fly back over to hang on the shepherd's hook, then hop directly onto the feeder and serve himself. I'm sure dad was proud. Chickadees are back. WT Sparrows are still flying in and out of the raspberry thicket. Had a young robin getting a hunting lesson on the lawn a couple of days ago. Now if it and the phoebes would just concentrate on the cucumber beetles...
