Hi All,
-- A quick note to pass on that a Northern Hawk-Owl has been seen for a couple days in Houlton.
The bird is reportedly being seen tee-ed up in trees along a dead end access road located just off of I-95.
To get to the spot from the south from Interstate 95, one would take the first Houlton exit to Route 1. Head north (left) under the highway and proceed about a half mile north to the aptly-named Access Road on the right just before York's car dealership. The owl is being seen just a short distance down the Access Road and has been favoring a small copse of trees on the right and another on the left just after the veterinary clinic.
Weather forecast for Aroostook County today, and through the weekend, includes single digit high temperatures and wind chills between -20 and -30. It may be possible to observe the bird without becoming hypothermic or losing appendages to frostbite, but this IS breezy, open country and its winter in the county so dress appropriately.
Good birding
