Comments: A large bodied Alcid was scoped out flying with the strong wind moving south out of Somes Sound towards the ocean. This bird was cruising 45-60 mph....A Bald Eagle makes a pass
7 species (+1 other taxa)
Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) 6
Red-breasted Merganser (Mergus serrator) 1
Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) 1 flyover
Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) 1
Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) 21
large alcid sp. (Uria/Alca sp.) 1 My guess was Thick-billed Murre but because of the situation and how fast it was moving I am not going to give it a name. Clearly this bird was up in the Sound. There appears to be a number of Alcids along the Down east coast due to high seas, extreme cold and high winds.
Black Guillemot (Cepphus grylle) 2
American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) 5
