Lots of gulls and alcids were feeding in the tide-rips between Eastport, Maine and Campobello, New Brunswick today. I jumped in my boat and had fun drifting among the birds on this calm and relatively warm first day of winter. Black-legged kittiwakes were the most abundant birds (~400) and razorbills were everywhere in groups from 2-30. Herring gulls, ring-billed gulls, and Bonaparte's gulls were also numerous and several Iceland gulls were in the mix too. I spotted one thick-billed murre, one common murre, and one black-headed gull among the throng. A lingering minke whale and multiple harbor porpoise made appearances.
