Re: [Maine-birds] New Sweden yard birds: Snow buntings

In Whitefield- Our first ever Snow Buntings (also four) are feeding on our platform feeder and resting on the snow-covered woodpile.  They are joined by four American Tree Sparrows, three Cardinals (2 lovely, competitive females, 1 glowing male), and a muckle load of Black-capped Chickadees, a magnitude of Mourning Doves, a cacophony of Blue Jays, a sprinkling of Tufted Titmice, Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers, both Common and Red-breasted Nuthatches, and meandering American Goldfinches.

It's possible to tell how snowy it is by how close the buntings get to the house (usually in the driveway).  The four this morning are early for the season.
