A quick trip to Pemaquid Light to soak up the stunning scenery, yielded a tiny white blur winging by and landing in a spruce - Brown Creeper! Then across the ice down to the rocks - 2 Northern Gannets far out, a lone Guillemot, 3 Common Eider, a few Herring Gulls.
Scanned the rocks at the water's edge and lo and behold an ever-increasingly large flock of Purple Sandpipers, gleaning from the seaweed covered rocks, bathing and preening in the brilliant sun - all glistening - 89 at least. Where were all these birds on our CBC count at the point?
Ran back to car to get camera; focused on birds bathing - no battery power left!!! There is a moral to this - keep your camera battery charged!!
