RAPTORS & RAVENS
Most things have been more or less the same since my last report.
As is normal, we (joyfully) miss out on most "snow events" or at least they are quite trivial. I might be able to fill a cooler if I collected all of the snow on the island that's hidden in nooks and crannies.
Garlic and a few other plants are poking an inch or so above ground. Those tender tops will likely be freeze damaged before Spring really arrives but they illustrate our over-all winter.
I've mentioned that 1 or 2 EAGLES are expected daily; occasionally more. This morning has been one of those large times.
There have been 2 apparently same adults being quite buddy-buddy for a week or so and today those presumed same adults have been squabbling with 3 different sub-adults.
I also recently mentioned that 1 of "our" 2 RAVENS hadn't been seen for some time. However, 2 Ravens (presumably "our" pair) have been very obvious for the past 3-4 days.
This morning the waters became quite muddied with at least 14 Ravens on the island, chasing and squabbling and demonstrating aerial prowess. A lot of time they wheeled and darted 2 by 2. Individuals, perhaps 2 or 3, would briefly harass an Eagle but attention was mainly Raven-on-Raven.
The only other item of note is the beginning of GREAT CORMORANTS with their distinctive white-spotted flanks.
