While walking along the trail to the Dresden Bog a half hour or so ago, I was surprised to come upon a family of Winter Wrens - at least one adult feeding two or three wing-fluttering young birds.
I had heard and seen Winter Wren in the same location as early as March 20 according to my records for this year, but this is the first time I have seen this species anywhere in the Dresden area in summer, let alone feeding young.
The bog trail begins on the right hand side of the Bog Road in Dresden, just a little more than half a mile from where the Bog Road intersects with the Blinn Hill Road. Limited parking is available on either side of the chained-off trail entrance entry. More more information is available at http://www.maine.gov/ifw/wildlife/management/wma/region_b/earlekelley.htm. In addition to birds, a nice variety of butterflies and dragonflies can also be seen along the trail.
