Some of you may recall that Appledore Island at the Isles of Shoals
holds the only "known" breeding location for a Lesser Black-backed Gull
in the United States and Canada. A single male bird, which has
hybridized with a Herring Gull every year since 2007, and has produced
hybrid offspring. This individual was banded as "F05" by Dr. Julie
Ellis of Tufts University, and has been reported wintering on Daytona
Beach in Florida. He had returned each year to nest at the Isles of
Shoals UNTIL 2012, when he failed to return, and was presumed dead.
Gone to the great "Landill in the Sky"! BUT NO, he has returned to
