[Maine-birds] Golden Eagle - Bath Landfill

The bird that was so beautifully photographed yesterday by Margaret and Louis, was present and accounted for late morning today.   You might have to brush the Bald Eagles aside to get a clear shot at it.

All eagles, and gulls, were hyperactive while a front-end loader was stirring the pot.  Ravens and crows as well.

I scanned the area 2 hours later and found that most gulls were not using the mouth of the Weskeag as a roost, as is usual most years.  Instead, the shore opposite Bath on the Kennebec (next to Day's Ferry) is choked with ice early this year, and is providing plenty of roosting opportunities for gulls, and their perpetual harassers ...eagles.

Much of this ice breaks off in little chunks and drifts up and down the river with tide changes.  In the event of dipping at the dump, you might consider these other options.  Parking somewhere along the Bath waterfront and scoping the ice chunks as they drift by is the lazy-man's way to see lots of gulls, one at a time.
