Hi folks,
I stopped at the Hatch Hill Landfill Wed. afternoon and saw the birds listed below. I was present at the landfill from 2:15 to about 3:30. The sky was clear, winds were 5-15 and the temp ranged between 44 and 39. No snowy owls were present at the landfill or along Piggery Road at the Viles Arboretum.
1 Glaucous gull - first winter bird
2 Iceland gull - 1 first winter bird and 1 adult
1 Lesser black-backed gull - adult
3 Ring-billed gulls
~30 Great black-backed gulls - Guestimate
1,200+ Herring gulls - A quick estimate
Gulls were up and down the entire time as 7 eagles were constantly flushing them. There was little opportunity to scan or systematically count resting gulls.
9-10 Bald eagles - 3 adults and 6-7 1 to 3 year old birds
30 American crows - Low count. No large flocks were present
1 Common Raven
300+ European starlings
1 Turkey
I did a brief stop at the Viles Arboretum along Piggery Road. It was quiet and I did spent little time there.
1 Song sparrow
1 Tree sparrow
6 American crows
Good birding,
Norm
